Cynthia Remec, the founder and executive director of the nonprofit board consulting firm BoardAssist, has joined the Board of Directors of The After-School Corporation.
TASC is a nonprofit organization which has helped more than 250,000 kids over nine years by supporting after-school programs that operate inside New York City schools each day from 3 to 6 PM. TASC's comprehensive programs offer kids academic support and enrichment and an enticing variety of cultural, sports, scientific and service experiences, so that all kids can develop to their fullest potential.
Ms. Remec operates the largest personalized board matching service in the world. Her mission is to bring intellectual as well as financial capital to the leadership of nonprofit organizations, by matching leaders in their fields with organizations whose missions they embrace.
"I joined TASC because I've seen the power of after-school," Ms. Remec said. "I've seen the compelling data that shows that when you engage kids in after-school, their school attendance soars and drop-out rates decline. When kids have a chance to excel at something -- and when they have breakthrough relationships with adults who tell them they're great at art or sports -- then the data shows they do better in math and science and everything else."
The Chair of the TASC board, Robert D. Joffe, said, "Cynthia is a tremendously effective advocate for the way after-school programs expand kids' overarching educational opportunities. She has spent many years spreading this message to emerging professional leaders in New York and across the nation. TASC is fortunate to have her active support and expert counsel."
Ms. Remec takes a particular interest in nonprofits that pioneer and share best practices. "TASC is a critical engine that drives the after-school field, helping to expand the accessibility of after-school to families who really need it," she said. "I'm excited to be a part of that."
