High school students can be great science leaders for younger kids.
In an article published in the January/February 2009 issue of Connect, a magazine for kindergarten-through-8th grade science and math teachers, members of TASC's staff describe how high school students can be trained to effectively lead after-school science activities with younger children. The authors -- TASC Science Manager Maryann Stimmer and Hopi Noel Morton, program officer for the TASC After-School Education Apprenticeship Program – describe how after-school programs can be encouraged to engage kids more regularly in science by supplying them with strong curriculum, and with high school staff members who are trained to lead science activities.
The After-School Education Apprenticeship Program is supported by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
