David M. Steiner helped create a graduate school pathway for after-school educators at Hunter College School of Education.

TASC President Lucy N. Friedman congratulated David M. Steiner on his appointment as State Education Commissioner and president of the University of the State of New York today. She said, "I have even greater hope for the children of New York State today than I did yesterday."

Dr. Steiner, who is the dean of Hunter College School of Education, partnered with the Center for After-School Excellence at TASC to create New York City's first graduate professional certificate for rising leaders in the after-school field. He supported innovative curricula and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of after-school managers who want to improve their practice with kids and earn credits toward graduate degrees. As a result, Hunter College School of Education created a model for the field in providing graduate education to people who are committed to working with kids outside of traditional school hours.
