Directions for Our Youth will orchestrate the second annual Dropout Summit at Lehman College, CUNY on February 22, 2008. More than 40 cities and states have initiated dropout summits in response to the first NYC-based event in 2007. New York City is plagued by a dropout crisis which continues to grow. In 2005 more than 20,000 students dropped out. In 2006 more than 21,000 failed to graduate. The crisis is especially severe in Latino and African-American communities where segregation and poverty further impede graduation.
