In this K-12 sustainability challenge a class or group of students work with a teacher/mentor within a classroom setting, home school environment or after school program to identify an environmental issue. Students at all levels use scientific investigation and web-based curriculum tools powered by Discovery Education to create a replicable green solution.
Entries across grades K-5 should focus on an environmental issue or problem in their classroom or school. Middle school (grades 6-8) students will identify an issue in their community that needs to "go green" and provide a plan to positively impact that issue and further "green living" in their community. High school (grades 9-12) teams must select an worldwide environmental topic relating to energy, biodiversity, land management, water conservation & clean-up and/or air & climate.
Student and teacher/mentor prizes vary according to grade level and include scholarships, savings bonds, school grants, adventure trips and, for high school teams,a chance to present their idea at the United Nations.
