The Central/Core training curriculum addresses the varying skill levels, backgrounds, and needs of the after-school staff identified by research and ongoing feedback from the field. Program heads and front line staff have access to numerous professional development workshops and trainings on core, safety and regulatory after-school issues. All of these trainings help programs meet government-mandated School-Aged Child Care (SACC) licensing requirements.
In order to help staff access trainings, TASC sends regular email announcements of upcoming trainings and registration. To assure that training does not interfere with the operation of programs, core trainings are generally scheduled on weekdays before 3 PM, on weekends, holidays, New York City Department of Education half days and during school vacations.
After-school site coordinators, who direct programs in schools, are also invited to participate in TASC’s Peer Conferences. Held eight times during the school year, these conferences offer site coordinators and supervisors a forum to network, share promising practices and support one another. Most conferences are organized around a theme and include keynote speakers and/or expert facilitators.
