Students in these TASC program after-school clubs design and execute community service projects of their choice. Kids in 2006-07 involved themselves in running activities at a local senior center, a Breast Cancer Awareness Day walk, a winter coat drive, work in a local soup kitchen, and a teacher appreciation event.
The curriculum is designed to develop team building, community exploration, youth empowerment and reflection. As kids explore their communities and begin to make their action plans for change, they are encouraged to look into causes, find out what others are doing to help, and choose activities that have meaning for them.
