Mission
The New York State Afterschool Network is a public-private partnership of statewide, regional and local groups dedicated to promoting young people's safety, learning and healthy development outside the traditional classroom. NYSAN's activities are directed toward building the capacity and commitment of communities to increase the quality and availability of programs during non-school hours. History
The New York State Afterschool Network began in 2001 as an advisory group to the New York State Education Department for the planning and implementation of 21st Century Community Learning Centers in New York State, at the time the U.S. Department of Education transferred the administration of 21st Century to the states. In 2003, this advisory group formally became The New York State Afterschool Network.
