The Research and Evaluation team at TASC conducts and encourages research into the most urgent questions in the expanded learning opportunities field: What are the elements that support program quality and best results for kids? How can programs most effectively be staffed? What common measurements should be applied?
TASC's researchers also contract to provide independent evaluations to after-school programs in New York City that receive federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers support.
TASC was one of the first nonprofit organizations in the country to commission a multi-year, independent evaluation of our programs because we believe that after-school programs and systems must be grounded in research and evaluation. By being active in both realms, we bridge research and practice, assuring that research findings are translated into the daily work of after-school providers.
By conducting research and taking into account program evaluations, we make progress in identifying the elements of program structure, activities and staffing that support kids' positive outcomes. We hold ourselves and our field accountable for making a difference in the lives of kids.
We conduct and publish original research. We also convene scholars from varied disciplines and encourage them to work on questions of great importance to the development of strong after-school programs and systems.
We conduct evaluations of programs that help them identify their strengths and areas in need of improvement. We use established data collection systems that rely on empirically sound and validated instruments and analysis.
