Through the Center for After-School Excellence at TASC, we conduct external evaluations of approximately 85 after-school programs in New York City that serve around 20,000 kids, with federal funding from 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Using research-based tools and methods, we undertake a systematic process to regularly monitor quality and program results. We make links between established best practices and evaluation results. To make evaluation reports worthwhile, we work with program managers and their staff to use the reports as tools to improve.
Evaluation is an essential tool for tracking successes and areas of improvements for after-school programs. By sharing data with individual programs, we help them enhance the quality of experiences for kids. In a field where there is still much to learn about what works best, however, these evaluations also contribute to helping others understand the core elements of the most effective programs.
The Research and Evaluation team offers programs a comprehensive evaluation service that addresses student and staff outcomes and broader program goals and objectives. We use established data collection systems that rely on empirically sound and validated instruments, analysis, and reporting. The distinguishing feature of our evaluation service is its goal: to improve kids' experiences by bridging the gap between research and practice.
The team also evaluates pilot program models and initiatives to determine their effectiveness by analyzing qualitative and quantitative data from program staff and participants.
