TASC shares models and provides technical assistance to build and strengthen systems in New York and beyond. We are the fiscal agent for the New York State Afterschool Network. We are the founding partner in the Collaborative for Building After-School Systems (CBASS), a partnership of after-school intermediaries around the country that are building after-school systems within their home cities and regions.
In New York City, we provide technical assistance to build the capacity of after-school programs through New York City’s Out-of-School Time initiative. Through CBASS, we have joined forces with our peers to address common challenges, find common solutions and work toward policy change. We are helping other cities, state and regions organize their resources to build systems that respond to their local needs.
When TASC began its work in New York in 1998, after-school programs came and went from year to year. They often operated on schedules that failed to meet the needs of working parents, and there was no coherent system for assuring quality. Under the leadership of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, New York now has a system of daily, comprehensive programs for kids in kindergarten through high school. But the after-school movement is young. In most localities, systems that make the most equitable and efficient use of local resources are still emerging.
